Yes, the NVME board + memory draw much more power than the SD-Card, that's a fact.
Another thing I forgot to mention : when starting with RPI 5, I often had problems like the PI not booting correctly.
Until I set the value that alolows it to boot even with not enough power.
OK, the PI is staated to need 5A to work. But in all my testings, I never reached 1A - so why set this upper limit as mandatory ?
@Keith, do you mean thaat you attach all 3 +5V pins to the +5V output of the converter ?

This might sound like a power management problem - I remember facing this kind of issue with USB devices lost because of poor power delivery.
I could fix this by unchecking the power management button.
So, I did a quick search and found that for linux the ethernet power management is located in /sys/class/net/eth0/device/power, where the file control contains auto if power management is allowed, and on otherwise.
Try sudo nano /sys/class/net/eth0/device/power/control and replace auto with on, then Ctrl+O, Ctrl+X, or (easier) just do a copy/paste of the command given there , reboot and... keep your fingers crossed.
Let's know if it works.

I was happy to see an update of the APP today, following yesterday's OS.
There was even another OS update today. So, all ought have gone fine.
Except... the APP wouldn't work at all.
First, problems launching and connecting to the CCD driver. I had to restart about six times both the PI and the tablet before it would.
Then, the APP systematically crashing as soon as I taped the search icon in the mount control.
And targetting any object on the sky chart was veeeeeeery sloooooow. Until it would not work at all.
Parking the mount... well, is it worth saying that would not work either ?
I wasted my time because of broken software. Really frustrating.
OK, so before I would go back home, I switched to VNC - not the one embedded to the android app, the RealVNC that I installed.
From there, anything would work flawlessly : targetting - whatever the way -, parking, ...
Yes, but I was too bored and exhausted, only willing to go back home.
But I'm sure this will be fixed very quickly. but, for now, I must go to bed and have a better night than it begun.

I tested with my Pi running from ca. 5 PM yesterday, kstars displaying the sky chart, and the wifi is still connected.
Just one thought - though I don't think that might be relevant - : IPv6 is deactivated for all my networks.

After some serach, I could find this thread that seems to look more or less like what you describe.
It redirects to other links that might be worth having a look at.
I think I can't do much, and this 12 hours limit affectinf both ethernet and wifi still seems very strange to me.

So... I did not face this so far, but

  1. I am using a Pimoroni PCIe NVME board, and
  2. The SD-Card, when I plug one, is just for data transfer and does not contain the OS.
As for your issue, I could understand problems with wifi, assuming a weak PSU and/or USB-3 interferences, but then the LAN ought not to be affected.
So far, the only issue I face is when I use a short (30 cm) USB-3 cable to connect the Pi to the CCD and 2.4 GHz wifi connection to the mount - then wifi vanishes, but it's a known issue.

Hello Peter,
Did this only affect ethernet, or also wifi ?

Hello Hy,
Maybe I did something wrong, but it did not work if I check the box.
I'll give it another try next time the weather is fine and I can go taking pictures.

Hello,

A bit late, sorry.
Not only you can try, but this is made for this purpose : I did transfer my whole SDcard content to the SSD.
However, you then must tell the Pi it has to boot from the SSD.
This is done via the raspiconfig command.
You either can chose to always boot from SSD or only if no SDcard is inserted.

Hello,

Would it be possible to move the mount quick control pannel to the left side (see attachment) ?
This would save the space on the main screen and would not hide a part of the object one tries to adjust.

Best regards,

J.-Luc

Hello Jasem,
So, the feature doesn't exist yet. I thought I had missed something.
Is it worth opening a feature request, or just wait for the things to go their way ?

Hello Salman,
Well, the problem is not how to enter the video mode, but how to get smooth motion.
At the camera's highest resolution, the best I can get is 4 fps.
I thought that decreasing it it to something like 1920x1080 would allow higher framerate, but doing so through the dedicated indi tab did not.
So, my actual question is : where and how can I decrease the camera's resolution so that the throughput becomes faster ?

Hello Salman,
Yes, they were. However, taping either the Park or Goto icon (I don't remember for sure about Search) did nothing.
As I wrote in my post, there was a PI update before, and there were a lot in the following days.
The following time I used it, a couple of days after, the commands did work fine again.
I did just mention this and, of course, did not open a ticket because all worked then.
But the fact is, that at the time it happened, the commands from within the SM APP did not work, but all workd fine using RealVNC.
