I wont argue with you on that point but it only applies to some of the users.
Many of us are in astronomy clubs who travel alot or do alot of outreach events and using GPS makes our tracking more accurate.
If I had an observatory, I would agree with you but my club does so much travel and outreach, GPS updates make life easier on those of us not tied to one or two locations.

Hi @HelgeMK, I have a RPi4 running StellarMate OS 1.4.3 and I want to add a GPS module, I have a GY-NEO6MV2 module and I want to know if it works with StellarMate and what driver I have to use? Any help? Thanks!
For me, the real value of a GPS dongle is for setting the time more than the location. If you're at a dark site with no wifi, the GPS dongle will solve both problems.
