So I've been thinking lately of doing video documentation for KStars & Ekos to be published on YouTube. The videos are planned to be short (less than 5 mins) and to cover a specific topic. It is targeted to StellarMate users but should be applicable to all. For example:
1. Download & Setup
2. Interface & Navigating the Sky Map.
3. Searching For Objects.
4. Setting Geographic Location
...etc
Any thoughts? Suggestions? Tell me now before I get started!
along with 3, updating objects and adding objects that are newly found or do not exist in kstars. New found asteroids or comets for example.
Adding additional datasets, and how to use "or search the internet" feature
The problem with video is they are quickly outdated because software evolved. If you take a look at Jasem YouTube Channel, you can see a lot of change in ekos between the first and the last video.
What about official documentation? Maybe it's a good idea to make short video tutorial and make a review of the doc in the same time?
What about live astro session and multilingual video?
Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon using PPA for latest KStars-bleeding and INDI
Raspberry Pi 3 B+ with StellarMate
Atik 314E - ASI120M - CG5 with Celestron C9.25
As Ekos is evolving quite quickly due to a growing user base, I do think that a solid documentation is necessary to work on.
Videos can complement the doc, as long it's not about something that will be obsolete from version to version.
There is already good documentation. The one in INDI website is a bit outdated (if anyone can step in, be my guest), the latest stuff are in
StellarMate Ekos documentation
page.
I'm not great at writing documentation, but I'll happy to get access to the pages so that I can help you update them whenever it's necessary based on user's feedback.
