At this point a question arises, why not create two git branch?
One stable and one development.
Where in the stable version only the safe improvements ( and solved bug ) are added.
And in the branch of development the new options ( not stable and/or with possible problems )
Well, we have "stable" releases, GIT is not meant to be utilized by end users and is not guaranteed to be stable! Later today we will release KStars 2.8.1

I'm experiencing the exact same problem under Kubuntu and kstars-bleeding from your ppa. Except that everything works fine.
I just wanted to tell you, it's ok for me if I just have to wait a newer release. Maybe I have to change some configuration somewhere ?
