I have started working with the indi/ekos/kstars setup on linux. I have been able to control two mounts and my canon DSLR, but am having issues with getting guiding to work with my Orion Starshoot Autoguider. I am able to connect to it using the QHY INDI driver stack, but I must be missing something, because I can't get it to quide. Does anyone have any tips for the Orion SSAG?
What exactly is not working? You got calibration to work?
Tips for better guiding:
1. Better Polar Alignment
2. Set binning to 2x2
3. Select different filter (e.g. High contrast) and see if that makes a difference to bring down the noise.
4. Smaller Square Size.
5. Play with DEC Proportional Gain or disable DEC control completely and see the difference.
6. Leave algorithm to default value (Smart)
I am having trouble communicating with the camera at all in the guiding tab. It barfs when I set the binning to 2x2 complaining that is an invalid setting. When I click the capture button it seems to sit there at the capturing image status indefinitely. However, if I go over to the plate solving tab and select that camera, it does at least take an image there. I have only played with this setup for a few days so I am open to the possiblity that I may have a setting incorrect as well.
Not yet, but I will before I get a chance to connect up the autoguider. I don't have the mount set up right now. It was easy enough to grab the camera for the other thread we have going though.
Since we use an Orion guider at the university, might I suggest he get the system guiding using Lin_guider as an independent piece of software? We do it all the time and it works great.
Simply download Lin_guider, install and select as a QHY5 camera. He will need to modify the udev rules to recognize and install the QHY5 driver with the Orion's product ID.
